Director

Dr. F. Sumaiya Idroos, the Director of the Centre for Water Quality and Algae Research at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, is a distinguished academic and researcher with a robust background in Zoology. Holding a B.Sc. and Ph.D. from the same institution, her research interests primarily focus on biodegradation and microbial ecology. Dr. Idroos has contributed significantly to academia and administration, serving as the Coordinator for the M.Sc. program on Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and as the Secretary of the Department of Zoology. Her commitment to education is further highlighted by her role as the Lecturer-in-Charge for the industrial training program and her tenure as an Academic Counselor.

In addition to her academic roles, Dr. Idroos has garnered recognition for her outstanding contributions to various international conferences, earning accolades such as the Award for Best Oral Presentation and Outstanding Paper. As a testament to her global engagement, she has served as a foreign delegate for the Modern College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in Pune, India, and currently holds a position on the editorial board of the International Journal for Multidisciplinary Innovation and Research Analysis.

Her leadership and commitment to environmental research are evident in her directorial role at the Centre for Water Quality and Algae Research since 2023. Dr. Idroos continues to make strides in research, currently overseeing a project on exploiting natural soil microbes as a biofertilizer to enhance soil fertility. With a track record of excellence in research, teaching, and administration, Dr. F. Sumaiya Idroos is poised to guide the Center for Water Quality and Algae Research towards further advancements in the realms of biology, water quality, and environmental management.
