Publication Announcement

The International Center for Multidisciplinary Studies (ICMS), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, officially launched the book PERSPECTIVES ON PATHWAYS TO KNOWLEDGE BUILDING AND DEVELOPMENT; A COLLECTION OF PRESENTATIONS, authored by Emeritus Professor Marcus M. Karunanayake (Late).

The author is the founder Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Sri Jayewardenepura and he served as Professor/Senior Professor and Chair of Geography at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and later as Emeritus Professor of Geography. This publication brings together a rich collection of keynote addresses, guest speeches, and seminar presentations delivered at both local and international fora over several decades by the author.

Inclusive of the Introduction, The Book consists of twenty-five chapters. Of the twenty-four presentations included in Parts 1 and 2, seventeen are keynote addresses. Part 1 provides an Overview and includes the Introduction. Part 2 contains presentations relating to Knowledge Building while those on Development are included in Part 3. Joint presentations do not figure in the publication but are given in an addendum for the benefit of those interested. All presentations have been carefully edited and amended by the author where necessary to ensure precision and clarity. The book projects a multidisciplinary perspective and provides perspectives on the many pathways to knowledge building and development that Sri Lanka has traversed over the past few decades and their outcomes.

ICMS extends sincere appreciation to Senior Professor Shirantha Heenkenda, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Professor Sunethra Thennakoon, Director of the International Centre for Multidisciplinary Studies; Venerable Professor Pinnawala Sangasumana, along with the members of ICMS, and Ms. Dhammika Galkaduwa, Deputy Bursar of the faculty, for initiating and supporting the publication of the book.

The Director of ICMS, Professor Sunethra Thennakoon, officially presented copies of the published book to the author and to the Dean of the Faculty. This publication will be freely distributed among academics, researchers, educationists, policymakers, universities, and planning and policy-making institutions by ICMS.

Copies can now be collected from the ICMS Office located at the 5th floor, Wimaladamma Mansion, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
